I'm BACK

Tue Jun 16, 2009, 8:48 AM
Yes, you read that right. I am BACK! As many of you know, deviantArt and I had been having a few problems with one another: namely, my computer (and ONLY MY computer) would not show dA (and ONLY dA) properly. Well, ladies and gentlemen, I FIXED IT!

*shoves bubble pipe in mouth*

At first I suspected that a virus was to blame... *Dramatic look* but I was WRONG. After carefully reformatting my hard drive and reinstalling windows, dA was still just out of my reach and the culprit was still at large. Just as I was giving up hope, I recieved a tip off from the most unlikely source... *dun dun DUN* Facebook. *gasps of shock* Yes, Facebook. Unlikely as it may be, Facebook went against it's contaminating, spyware-ridden ways to snitch, and informed be that the REAL culprit was none other than...

*POINTS DRAMATICALLY* INTERNET EXPLORER!!

How could old IE betray me?!

Well, I'll tell you my friends. It was just that. IE had gotten old... and, well... somewhat senile. It's mind had gone. Turns out, IE was just TOO far gone. There was nothing left to do except let IE go and replace it...

WITH IE 8!

Yes, my friends, Internet Explorer 8! Newer! Shinier! Younger than it's senile grandparent, IE 6! And most importantly, dA friendly!

You heard me: I'm back at dA! And unlike last time I returned from a long absence and did NOTHING, I have already uploaded two new pieces of artwork from class at Seneca this past year.

Huzzah, welcome back Maggie. :D

Congrats on the job at the pet shop, by the way, you will now have to see me EVERY WEEK! Bwahahaha poor you. That's a cool job, though, my mom and I were contemplating me working there. (since I already know the animals & where everything is. :/ )

So you give the Sims 3 a thumbs up? I was kinda weary about it, what are your thoughts so far?

Thanks! :D

Yeah, I'd give Sims 3 the thumbs up. I haven't had too much of a chance to play with it really, but I created a couple of young adults to start with, and they have died. Their son is now a young adult, married, has a child, and has another on the way, so I guess we could say I've completed a life cycle.

It's a lot like the Sims 2 visually, but the creation process is much more in depth and you have much more control. I love it! Also, the system of aspirations has been updated so that there is a long term goal, and then several short term goals all at once, and it makes the game a lot more entertaining. Of course, being able to walk to you neighbors house without having to call a taxi and a babysitter is also awesome.

Ah, from my research I've been lead to believe that the power of free-form creation and playing God had been traded in and that the game was more directed, which would spoil the game for me. I was also turned off to hear that you could only have 4 familys, couldn't create neighborhoods, etc, and I was thinking Maxis was being money-hungry by not waiting to make the step from TS2 to TS3 as amazing as that of TS1 to TS2, but by the sounds of your review maybe not?

The game is a little more directed, but that might just be because I haven't discovered a money cheat yet. I actually like the goals though, and there are many, many more aspirations to chose from based upon the traits you pick for your Sim. (I like the new trait system, I think there's more freedom.) But yeah, I was disappointed to find that I could only have four families. And yes, there's only one starting neighborhood, but each family (assuming you want to control them) has to be in a different one! The visuals aren't as great a step up as they were from Sims 1 to Sims 2, but at least in the Sims 3 you can have fat people, or people with freckles. My favorite new design feature though, is that you can put any pattern in any color combination you want, on almost anything. There's only a few things you can't design, like fences or specific objects, like the make-up case.
:iconrabidballerina:
Well, I'm excited to see what they did to the trait system, or the entire Create-a-Sim system actually, because it sounds like the best part of the game is building more human sims, which I am sure will now consume more hours of my life than I will even be able to admit to :D. (Yeah, and about time we could make Sims that aren't the same cookie-cutter slim shape.)

I'm thinking maybe I'll look into a memory upgrade or external hard drive to be able to run the game.

Actually, I tried to call you after work, but... well, it turns out we might have forgotten to tell Vicky that we were going shopping tomorrow! And she's going canoeing with Tyler. :( So we have to go some other time. We could still hang out if you want though!
